The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (CDRMS) contracted Meridiam Partners to reclaim two coal refuse piles at an inactive mine near Trinidad, Colorado. The reclamation involved the removal and re-grading of 14,000 cy of coal waste material, capping areas of coal refuse with native soil, constructing three engineered stream channels to divert water around and away from the piles, and revegetating the area.
The three diversion channels were excavated and then lined with riprap. Two of the diversion channels were reinforced with check dam structures.
Upon completion of the earth movement activities, seven acres of soil were seeded and mulched.
