Ramboll contracted with Meridiam Partners in May of 2018 to remove and replace an HDPE pond liner in Treatment Pond Cell #2, at the Eagle Mine Superfund Site near Minturn, Colorado.  The lined pond is part of the treatment plant facility that removes heavy metals from mine waters discharging from the Eagle Mine.

The project consisted of pond sludge removal/disposal, liner anchor trench excavation, cutting and disposal of the used liner, grading/re-compaction of the pond bottom and backfill of the liner trench after installation of the liner had been completed by others.

Approximately 2,200 CY of sludge was removed, 1,255 lineal feet of anchor trench excavated/backfilled, and 94,000 square feet of liner was removed to complete the project.  This project was completed on-time, on-budget with no change orders to the client.

Meridiam crews were all trained with OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER prior to starting the project and performed construction under the direction of the client, the Environmental Protection Agency  and the Colorado Department of Health and Environment on an active Superfund Site.

Meridiam will return to the Eagle Mine in May/June of 2019 to remove and install the HDPE liner in Treatment Pond Cell #1 for the same client.
