State Wildlife Area Flood Mitigation And Road Repair
Meridiam Partners was awarded the contract to repair flood damaged roads at two State Wildlife Areas in northeast Colorado for the Division of Parks and Wildlife, State of Colorado, Department of Natural Resources in May of 2018.
The project consisted of topsoil stripping, regrading and surfacing approximately 42,000 lineal feet of gravel road. Additional wet/soft areas were excavated and backfilled with recycled concrete aggregate base course to create stability in some sections of the grade.
As aggregate pricing in the local area was high, Meridiam provided a value engineering approach with the State of Colorado and found a natural aggregate source near the project. By crushing and screening the specification base course required for the project, Meridiam was able to give the State of Colorado a refund back on the project.
With this additional money, the Division of Parks and Wildlife extended the contract and had Meridiam crews install an access bridge across the Tremont Ditch in the JK Tool State Wildlife Area. Meridiam provided the State with several bridge options and costs to install. Once an option was chosen, Meridiam provided all engineering and construction of the access bridge.
The project was completed on time, within budget and with no change orders.
